Do your fitted sheets fit? If you are like me, then your fitted sheets have never really fit or stayed on your mattress the way they ought to. I happen to have a pretty deep mattress and even with deep “fitting” sheets, I still struggle with keeping them on nicely. In the past, I’ve had some elastic band thingies with a ball and hook kind of mechanism that attach at the corners of your sheets underneath the mattress. They did work, but they were a real pain to get on. I’ve also tried a clip on style, but they really don’t work well.
There has to be a better solution!
Recently, I decided to find or create a solution to the problem. I searched the internet and found some sheets you can buy that appear to be meant for those adjustable beds. They were pricey of course and may not fit a regular mattress so I decided to make my own.
I have a need and I found a solution that is really very simple and it really works and it’s really inexpensive! Yay! It sounds like a good project with a lot of sparks from my inspiration list. I’m inspired and motivated!
All you need is one package of 2 inch by 2 yard underwear & pajama elastic.
I got mine at Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Store for under $5. If you have a sewing machine, you’re all set.
With the fitted sheet on the bed, measure the distance from one sheet edge to the other at the corner from 10-12″ in from the corner. That’s pretty confusing so here’s a picture to help.
Cut four pieces of the elastic at that measurement, but at a 45° angle. Make sure both sides of the piece have the 45° angle cut in the opposite direction. Again, confusing to explain, but maybe this picture will help.
Using your sewing machine, stitch the elastic onto the sheet at the place you measured. Go over it several times for a secure hold. It should look like this.
Do this on all four corners and you’re done!
I love this quick fix to an annoying problem! I can wash and dry my sheets and never have to remove the elastic and put it back on. It’s a win!
